Increase picking productivity and accuracy with fewer robots and less walking

Chuck AMR, powered by Ocado IQ, dynamically adapts picking to your inventory, priorities and changing operating conditions to deliver a step change in productivity, pick accuracy, SLA performance and operational visibility

Chuck is a collaborative AMR designed to increase picking productivity within existing warehouse workflows and infrastructure. It travels with associates, carries orders and uses physical AI to guide each task through a clear on-screen interface and integrated pick-to-light technology. By removing cart handling, unnecessary walking and manual decision-making, Chuck AMR helps associates maintain speed and accuracy across different order profiles and demand levels.

Ocado IQ provides the intelligence behind the fleet. It groups compatible tasks, selects the right pick mode for each aisle, plans efficient routes and coordinates associates, robots and workflows in real time. As demand, priorities and aisle conditions change, Ocado IQ dynamically rebalances work to maintain flow and keep SLAs on track. Configurable hardware and software-led workflows allow Chuck AMR to support different products, containers and picking strategies without fixed guidance infrastructure or disruptive warehouse changes.

Put more of every shift into productive picking

Manual cart picking requires associates to spend valuable time walking, pushing loads and returning completed orders. Chuck AMR takes on carrying and transport, while on-screen instructions guide associates through each task at the pick face. This reduces unnecessary movement and helps them complete picks faster and more accurately.

Ocado IQ determines what happens next based on order priority, product location, available associates and robot traffic. Once loaded, Chuck AMR can travel autonomously to the next stage while the associate moves to the next pick, keeping work flowing without unnecessary return journeys.

More throughput does not have to mean more robots

Adding robots can add congestion as well as capacity. Ocado IQ groups compatible work, plans routes and coordinates handoffs so each Chuck AMR spends more time on productive tasks. When priorities or traffic change, it can reroute work and rebalance the operation rather than relying on a fixed task list.

The Bridge gives supervisors live visibility of order status, robots, queues and workloads. Ocado IQ can resolve common exceptions by reallocating work, rerouting tasks or creating a new container, helping teams protect flow without waiting for every issue to reach a supervisor. Regular software releases can add capabilities and improve performance after go-live.

This software-led approach helps the fleet make better use of aisle space, charging capacity and associate time. It also gives operators another lever before increasing robot density.

Configure Chuck AMR around your products and workflows

Chuck AMR supports discrete, batch, cluster and zone picking, as well as putaway, replenishment, returns, validation, sortation and packing within the agreed deployment scope. With a payload capacity of 200 lbs or 90 kg, adjustable shelving and purpose-built accessories, the same robot can support different products and processes without introducing separate automation systems.

Adapt Chuck AMR to the products you handle

Configure Chuck AMR with different tote or carton sizes, up to six adjustable shelf levels, hanging-garment rails and accessories including mobile printing, ladders and a workspace tray. Chuck+ AMR provides wider shelves for suitable larger loads and aisles.

Improve picking accuracy and SLA performance

On-screen instructions and integrated pick-to-light guidance direct associates through each task using easy to understand SKU/product imagery, quantities, and prompts. The correct container section illuminates automatically, while scan validation flags errors before they move downstream, helping associates pick quickly, consistently and accurately.

Keep work moving throughout the shift

Chuck AMR carries payloads of up to 90 kg or 200 lbs and operates for up to 12 hours per charge, depending on payload and operating conditions. Autonomous charging helps keep the fleet available without manual battery changes.

Reduce associate walking with smart routing and dynamic zoning

Ocado IQ keeps associates focused on productive work by adjusting routes around congestion and urgent tasks, rebalancing work zones as demand changes, and reducing unnecessary travel, waiting and idle time.

Eliminate double handling with in-aisle packing

Ocado IQ performs cubing, cartonization and label generation before picking begins, determining the right carton and packing configuration for each order. Associates can then pick directly into delivery cartons in the aisle, removing a separate packing step. This reduces handling, rework, labor and operational touchpoints and can cut packing labor and space requirements by up to 80% in some operations.

Use concurrent pick modes, configured by aisle, to optimize performance

Aisle width, SKU density, product velocity and traffic can change across the same building. Chuck AMR can run Sweep and Rendezvous at the same time, with Ocado IQ configuring the right mode by aisle. The robot changes behavior as it moves through the operation, without asking the picker to manage the switch.

Pick mode How work moves Where it creates value
Sweep One associate works with one Chuck AMR through a continuous pick path. Controls robot density in narrow aisles and supports dense guided picking.
Rendezvous One associate works across several Chuck AMRs positioned near upcoming picks. Reduces walking in wider aisles with medium density and enough room for several robots.
Concurrent operation Ocado IQ applies Sweep or Rendezvous to each configured aisle. Improves flow across mixed warehouse conditions without splitting the site into separate systems.

Deploy quickly in your existing warehouse

Chuck AMR works with existing racking, warehouse layouts and standard Wi‑Fi. Deployment starts with order data, aisle conditions, product handling, traffic and the systems that need to connect. Ocado then configures the workflow, fleet and robot layout around the work.

Reduce training time and help associates become productive faster. A consistent interface and step-by-step guidance make the system easy for new and temporary associates to learn and use.

  • Deploy in as little as 14 weeks
  • Onboard associates in ~15 minutes
  • No new infrastructure required
