"The Risks of Automating Fulfillment Operations to Peak" Jamie Spencer, VP Sales EMEA, Ocado Group

Every fulfillment leader knows the pressure of peak demand. Seasonal surges, sudden market shifts, or viral consumer trends can push even the most advanced operations to their limits. Yet many organizations make the mistake of designing systems that serve these exceptional moments at the expense of everyday performance. The cost? Under-utilized assets, fragile workflows, and missed opportunities to create lasting value.

In this thought-provoking session, Ocado Group will challenge conventional thinking on how businesses approach peak readiness. Rather than focusing on sheer capacity, we’ll explore how smarter system design can deliver resilience, adaptability, and efficiency all year round. From workforce challenges to sustainability commitments, from fixed infrastructure to flexible service models, we’ll examine the hidden trade-offs that executives must confront when investing in automation.

Attendees will gain fresh insight into the pitfalls of “peak-first” strategies, and discover how alternative approaches can unlock competitive advantage. We won’t just talk about technology—we’ll discuss a mindset shift that redefines how to prepare for disruption, protect ROI, and deliver customer promise without compromise.

Discussion Points:

What is the hidden impact of focusing a solution around being “peak-ready”?
How can leaders prepare for the unexpected?
Is there a smarter way to balance flexibility and throughput?
What does “capacity on demand” really mean for fulfillment operations?
